Utila's Whale Sharks

Utila is world-famous for whale sharks and is known as the "The Whale Shark Capital of the Caribbean." Utila is one of the few places in the world where whale sharks regularly pass close to shore. Although most frequently seen in the months March-April and August-September, whale sharks can be seen all year round.

Utila Water Sports supports the Shark Research Institute to record whale shark sightings around Utila. Our dive boats often sight whale sharks, especially during diving surface intervals, and our experienced staff coordinate the "jumps" to ensure that our divers enjoy the overwhelming experience of snorkeling with whale sharks in a responsible manner.
