Getting to Utila

The smallest of the Bay Islands of Honduras, Utila is relaxed, affordable, and easily accessible from nearly anywhere in Central America, or internationally via San Pedro Sula on mainland Honduras with connections from Miami, Houston and Europe.

By sea

The Utila Princess ferry regularly services Utila from La Ceiba -- journey time is just over one hour, depending on the weather. From central La Ceiba, take a taxi to the Cabotaje dock (it's too far to walk from town).

By air

Regular flights from the mainland via San Pedro Sula and La Ceiba are available from one airline: Aerolineas Sosa.

Getting to Utila, flights leave San Pedro Sula between 1:30 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. via La Ceiba. Flights leave La Ceiba from 6 to 7:30 a.m. and from 3:30 to 4 p.m., depending on the airline. (Please check at time of travel in case this information has changed.)

The flight from La Ceiba is short; you should be here within 15 minutes. Sit on the left for the best view.

It is a little more expensive to fly than to take the ferry! A single ticket costs around $100 from San Pedro Sula, and around $42 from La Ceiba, depending on season and availability.

Most flights from Utila leave between 6:00 and 7:30 a.m. You can usually buy your ticket back to the mainland very easily here on the island.
