Advanced Open Water
Why take the PADI Advanced Open Water Diver Course
This advanced-level certification provides a lifetime license to dive independently of a professional, anywhere in the world, to a maximum depth of 30 meters/100 feet. After your five adventure dives, you'll be more experienced, feel more comfortable in the water and simply enjoy diving more because you better understand the underwater environment. The course is designed to improve your diving skills well beyond open-water level.
Unlike the Open Water course, which focuses on basic skills and diving techniques, the Advanced course comprises five Adventure Dives, such as Deep, Navigation, Wreck, Peak Performance Buoyancy, Underwater Naturalist, Night, Multi-Level and many more.
The Advanced Open Water course can be integrated with the Enriched Air Nitrox (EAN) Specialty. EAN is a great tool to help you enjoy longer dives at depth. Enriched Air makes this possible because it contains less nitrogen and a higher percentage of oxygen than normal air. This means that you absorb less nitrogen as you dive, giving you longer no-decompression limits - you get to dive deeper for longer!
Options:
Nitrox Specialty (Enriched Air):
Pass your Enriched Air specialty with your Advanced course and save $84. For only $75, we offer you this great specialty. For more information about this specialty, go to the Nitrox Specialty page. The dive around the Halliburton wreck is ideal for this option. Diving on Nitrox will give you a longer bottom time, so more time to admire this magnificent shipwreck.
Photography:
Exchange your adventure Naturalist dive for an adventure Underwater Digital Photography dive or simply take one of our underwater cameras along to capture the experience for just $10. Limited special offer! This price includes the digital camera rental and a CD of your photos, including a selection of professional underwater photos from Utila Water Sports’ personal collection.
Course Schedule
| Day one |
Independent Study
In our air-conditioned classrooms, watch the informative and fun PADI videos and complete sections 1-3 of the self-study knowledge reviews.
Snorkeling/Kayaking
Join our staff on the boat for an afternoon of snorkeling or take one of our kayaks for a tour of the bay.

| Day two |
Classroom session
One of our highly trained instructors will review your self-study notes covering your five adventure dives. This is also an opportunity to ask any questions you have about dive theory.
Although multi-level diving is not compulsory for the course, as an extra bonus we will teach you how to plan a multi-level dive using “the wheel” (The PADI multi-level recreational dive planner). A multi-level dive profile allows you to stay underwater longer.
LUNCH BREAK
Adventure Deep dive
Go to 30 meters/100 feet. Wahoo! You will learn the basic diving skills necessary for deep diving. This dive takes place around the Haliburton wreck, a 100-foot-long cargo ship sunk in 1998.
Adventure Peak Performance Buoyancy dive
Buoyancy is the most difficult skill to master. It is also the most important diving skill and gives you more control in the water, helping you to relax and improving your air consumption. During this dive, you will improve your buoyancy control whilst having fun.

| Day three |
Adventure Naturalist dive
Learn about the underwater world: names of fish, coral, invertebrates, algae and the behavior of underwater creatures. After this dive, the reef will never look the same again. During the dive, your instructor will point out interesting features, such as fish farms, cleaning stations and coral chemical wars.
Adventure Navigation dive
Underwater Navigation is not an exact science, however during this dive we will show you the tricks of the trade. Using natural references and underwater compass techniques, you will learn some of the essentials for becoming an independent diver.
Adventure Night dive
Discover the underwater world by night, an exhilarating experience you will never forget! Everything is different: You'll see more color, as well as a multitude of different creatures, including octopus, blood worms, shrimp, squid, open coral and, of course, the stunning bioluminescence.
Congratulations! You're a certified PADI Advanced Open Water Diver |
