Dive Utila
With 68 permanent mooring buoys around the island to prevent boats from anchoring on the reef, Utila enforces a strong policy of protecting its beautiful underwater environment. In fact, divers are not allowed to touch or remove anything from the reef. In accordance with this strict preservation policy and to ensure both fun and safe dives, Utila Water Sports provides professional, qualified guides for each and every dive.
In general, diving conditions in Utila make for easy diving. There is mild to no current most of the year. Visibility averages somewhere between 30 and 100 feet (with visibility better on the north shore because of deeper water). And water temperatures average around 81 degrees Fahrenheit in summer, 79 degrees Fahrenheit in winter (though it can feel colder due to fresh water on the surface). Most divers are comfortable in a 3-mm "shorty" wetsuit.
